I wake up in the morning, eat, get dressed and drive to school. Which takes around 1 hour. I stay in school for a few hours and then commute back. After I get home I eat, pack all my stuff for training, and then go take a nap. After I take a nap I am usually fully recharged and ready for the rest of the days adventures. I repeat this almost everyday.

People always ask me how I am able to travel 4 hours a day to get to school and training. I just tell them when you want to do something, you will always find a way to do it. I found, the way I can lead this kind of life, is by napping every single day. After I do a major activity like going to school or training, I always take a 30-60 minute nap.

I recently read an article that sided with my argument that naps are the way to go. Nap ‘Boost’ brain learning power. In this article, Dr. Matthew Walker says ”Sleep not only rights the wrong of prolonged wakefulness, but, at a neurocognitive level, it moves you beyond where you were before you took a nap. It’s as though the e-mail inbox in your hippocampus is full, and, until you sleep and clear out all those fact e-mails, you’re not going to receive any more mail. It’s just going to bounce until you sleep and move it into another folder.”

Dr. Dimitrios Trichopoulos, a professor of cancer prevention and epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health conducted another study. They collected data from 23,681 Greek people for an average of 6.3 years. Non of these people had history of any major diseases. The study concluded that if they napped for 3 days a week a minimum of 30 minutes, “they had a 37% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular problem, compared with those who did not take a nap”.
The Health Benefits of Taking a Nap .

Things that are affected when you don’t get enough sleep:

  • Reaction time
  • Judgment
  • Vision
  • Information processing
  • Short-term memory
  • Performance
  • Motivation
  • Vigilance
  • Patience

So if you want to do anything that requires your brain for prolonged periods of time, its best to take these short naps to recharge your bodies and your minds. Make sure you set an alarm for when to wake up. I have had instances of “napping” for a few hours because I didn’t set an alarm.

Live well and Prosper!

Naps are the real deal. Got a new couch delivered to the office last week just for this purpose.
